Toyota Wish: a seven-seater that lasts with the right care
Administrator
The Wish is a seven-seat family car. Most in Kenya are the 2009–2017 models with a 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol engine and a CVT; earlier ones have a conventional automatic. Check the manual or ask your garage which gearbox yours has, because the fluids differ.
Regular service
- Engine oil and filter every 5,000 km in town, up to 10,000 km on the highway, with the grade in the manual.
- Gearbox fluid: CVT models need Toyota CVT fluid about every 40,000 km; automatic models need the correct Toyota ATF.
- Air and cabin filters every 20,000 km.
- Spark plugs at the manual's interval.
Carrying seven
- Use the full-load tyre pressures on the door-frame sticker.
- Rear shock absorbers and springs work hard; check them every 20,000 km.
- Brakes wear faster on a regularly full car. Check them every 10,000 km.
Common jobs as they age
- Suspension links and bushes.
- Engine mounts.
- AC performance: clean the cabin filter first, then check the gas.
